This is the 600th ISQ, our 500th hide, on our 60th Birthday...

"It's been a long road...

It's been a long road, getting from there to here.

Little did we realize almost four years ago when westarted this amazing journey where it would lead us. We've met alot of GREAT folks along the way, as well as a few brutally nastyones. We've gathered up a lot of Kudos, as well as a huge amount ofvilification, some from very unexpected quarters. Thru it all,We've tried to stay true to our original vision of honoring HoosierPioneers and Veterans...--LEAD DOG

The Indiana Spirit Quest series ofgeocaches will take you to a number of historic sites andcemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In almost four years, thequest has grown to over 600 caches hidden in Indiana, Ohio,Michigan, and Ontario and the hiders have grown to over fortycacher teams. Over 1,000 cacher teams hadlogged over 25,000 finds when we quitcounting.

Welcome to Hildebrand Cemetery in Huntington CountyIndiana.

This is a little known, largely abandoned cemetery in thewoods on the Banks of the Salamonie Reservoir. It is inexplicablynot on any of the County cemetery lists. There are 19 known listedburials here, but we counted 43 tombstones. There are probably manymore just under the groundcover, which is periwinkles, which havespread from the cemetery to the surrounding forest.

Earliest known burial here was in 1846 (Henry Hildebrand),and last 1892 (Noah Hildebrand), and most interments were in the1850's, 60's and 70's. There are 7 known Hildebrand family membersburied here.

There is a road back to the cemetery, off of CR W 550 S. Lookfor the ancient cedar trees. This cemetery is enclosed by an oldwire fence, mostly torn down, and is an excellent candidate forrestoration by the township...

We did not find any markers alluding to Armed Forces service,but we did find a modern Veteran's Flagholder, but no accompanyingstone.

Birth: Jul. 18, 1820
Botetourt County Virginia, USA
Death: Dec. 17, 1851
Huntington County Indiana, USA

Jacob moved into Huntington County in 1837, with his parents,Henry II Fullhart, and Anna Frantz. He was married on March 26,1840 to Nancy Jane Hildebrand. Jacob is buried along with three ofhis children, Albert, Benjamin and Julia. Stone exists (2005) Nancyremarries to Jacob Shideler in 1857.
