Rap music began to rise in the mainstream, and new wave, soft rock, punk, and electronic music paved the way for the new and edgier sound that emerged from the end of the '70s.
MTV launched in the early '80s and created a revolution in how fans consumed music—thus arose the dawn of the music video. There are a lot of obvious omissions from this list, but there is no way that Money For Nothing is not on this list, that's ridiculous. Also, no songs by Huey Lewis, Bee Gees, The Cars, Bryan Adams, Toto(Africa), Don Henley (Boys of Summer). Hold Me Now by the Thompson Twins and some other songs probably deserved to make this list over some of the songs on here too.

Also the 80's were probably the best decade for metal aswell, with albums like Bonded by Blood, Reign in Blood, Screaming for Vengeance, Master of Puppets, The Number of the Beast, Ace of Spades, Peace Sells, Among the Living, The Legacy and PLENTY more.
