A Ghost in a Strange Land - God of War/Fate Grand Order crossover (2024)

This world is not my own. I see it everyday in the walls of metal that surround me, in the machines even the greatest sages of Greece could have never dreamed of, even in the foods served for meals that display a variety of ingredients that spans the world - the sphere I have been shown is the entirety of the known world, and not just Greece and Midgard, as 'the world' was in my lifetime.

And this woman, as well, proves that this place is not the familiar world I have lived in all my days.

The Medusa of my world was a monster, hideous, malevolent, and dangerous to mortals, as were all her brood. There are many things I regret about my life in Greece. Slaying this monster is not one of them.

The Medusa of this world could not be further from the monster I fought, and killed.

In appearance, she could pass for a normal woman, save for the color of her hair (I am beginning to notice Servants exhibit many hues of color that are beyond the norm), and the sigil on her forehead. There is little of the snake in her, as was the case for her counterpart in my world. Her hair at times will gain a life of its own when she is greatly agitated, as if it was made of serpents, and not mere hair, but that is all.

In personality she is quiet. Reserved. She does not cloud the air with unnecessary talk, something I can appreciate - particularly given the love that others of my recent acquaintance have of their own voices. In battle, she is serious and efficient - mirroring her demeanor outside of it. Over the course of the French Singularity, I have come to appreciate her steadfast presence.

Our first meeting nearly ended in blood. She was able to see me for the god I am, as all Servants appear to be capable of doing, and reacted as I once would have to the presence of a god. Only the intervention of Cu Chulainn, and the knowledge of my not being a god of this world caused her to stand down and become willing to listen.

She has agreed to aid Chaldea, and remain tied to me on a trial basis, as she evaluates me - much in the same manner, I suspect, as I am evaluating her. Since that first bit of hostility, it has not resurfaced from her yet - at least not directed at myself. The Avenger it was our displeasure to meet in France, however, was another story.

Given her initial wariness of me, she has been far less aloof than I would have expected. She was the one to warn me of Kiyohime, and to explain her Legend to me. She was the one to come up with a plan to escape when we were confronted by Baldur, with no means to harm him. And she has been…….good with Mash, and the others we met in our time in the French Singularity. Truly, the only one she did not get along with was Avenger - which is not unique to her.

I find myself wondering how much of her story was truth, and how much was embellishment. I struggle to see the monster her story paints her as - the monster she sees herself as.

  • In combat, Medusa fights with a pair of stakes, lengths of chain, and pure speed. She is fast - incredibly so, displaying quickness that at times causes Cu Chulainn to renew his complaints about the Servant Class he finds himself 'stuck' in. She is able to cause her chains to fade in and out of visible sight, laying traps for the unwary - this is how she was able to finish off the mad Servant that served Carmilla.

  • She is also able to focus her power in a great burst - more than once I have seen her arms swell with muscles, before shrinking a moment later. This, I believe, is tied somehow into her Legend as a monster.

  • Her Noble Phantasm is The Pegasus. I have seen much in these past few weeks that has been strange and alien, but to see the winged horse that once bore me astride its back - even if it, like her, differs from the creature I knew - it was a small piece of familiarity. She is capable of calling forth Pegasus both as a Noble Phantasm or as a means of travel, the latter of which we used to make our escape from Baldur. The capabilities of the horse as a Noble Phantasm I have yet to witness.

  • Her eyes are apparently what Da Vinci says are termed 'Mystic Eyes', a term used for eyes that contain various powerful, magical effects. Medusa's can petrify those they look upon - her blindfold is her means of restraining this power. Though it does not seem to be as powerful as the Gorgons of my world - those with a powerful enough resistance to magic can delay, or even outright ignore the effects, or shake off the effects after they have begun to take hold. I myself met her eyes in the final stages of our assault on Orleans Castle, and did not suffer any ill effects for it. Perhaps the contact was too brief, or I possess some means of this resistance to magic.
